The Magnet is a restaurant and beer café that has recently been established on the 300 block of West Pender Street in Vancouver, BC. Being the brainchild of the folks behind both Brassneck Brewery and Alibi Room, its feeling, attitude, attention to detail and passion for quality food and drink should be immediately recognizable to those who are familiar with these two venerable establishments. For the uninitiated, it means an excellent beer list, a solid food program, great service and a completely unfussy and inclusive atmosphere.
Working with the ownership team over the course of a year leading up to opening date, our involvement in the project was early and often. We explored numerous visual avenues and reference points, settling on an eclectic visual language that balances tight and contemporary with loose and handmade. Working with local artists, we collaborated with the owner to give direction on artwork and photography for the restaurant interior and website. Subtle touches of branding permeate the drinking and dining experience, while being careful not to be overwhelmingly branded or too fussy. Just like the place itself.
